As the CEO of the Sugar Group Companies, Gunawan Jusuf runs a company that isn’t actually one single operation, but rather a varied collection of independent Indonesia-based companies that grow and refine sugar for the purpose of creating a variety of sugar products, a number of which are enormously popular. In addition to the many plantations and refineries dotting the Indonesian landscape, Sugar Group Companies operates from nearly a dozen offices located all over the country. Gunawan Jusuf has led his organization to create enormous growth in a wide variety of products, not the least of which is Gulaku, a refined sugar product that ranks among the most popular products in the country.

It can’t be easy to make all of those elements work together, which is what makes his demonstrated ability to make sure that every employee, subsidiary company and the various offices and plants are all working together Gunawan Jusuf's greatest legacy as Sugar Group Companies' executive. Keeping all of those elements working together for the benefit of the whole is a tricky proposition, but he manages to keep everything humming along smoothly enough to create many popular products.

Early in 2016, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sugar Group Companies, Gunawan Jusuf, decided to publish a book he wrote, entitled “Blue Gold.” This book is very important because it includes a frank discussion about the relative scarcity and the high value of water as our most important and precious commodity. He wrote the book based on his business experience. After all, given the business he runs, it can be said that Gunawan Jusuf understands better than most how precious and valuable natural resources like water can be.
